To celebrate the centenary of Rupert Julian’s 1925 film The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney, the Ravenna Nightmare International Film Festival, now in its twenty-third year, is dedicating its Opening 2025 event to the iconic silent film masterpiece. The film will be screened on October 20th in the splendid setting of the Teatro Dante Alighieri, built between 1838 and 1852 by the Venetian architects, brothers Tomaso and Giovan Batista Meduna. The Teatro Dante Alighieri is the largest theater in the city of Ravenna and one of the most elegant historic theaters in Italy; the neoclassical building has approximately 850 seats between the stalls and boxes. Julian’s magnificent black and white opera will be accompanied live by the orchestra of the Conservatory of Ravenna “Giuseppe Verdi”, II level Degree Course in Applied Music (Prof. Paolo Marzocchi), composers: Gabriel De Pace, Damiano Ferretti, conducted by Damiano Ferretti, composed, for the occasion, of 40 elements, a solo singer and the presence of the harp.
This edition centres on a seven artistic and educational marathon in Ravenna, featuring:
– Rehearsals and Masterclass with Professors from G. Verdi State Conservatory in Ravenna and professors from partners Universities.
– Public concert in Dante Alighieri Theatre in Ravenna on 20th of October 2025
